Netflix Will Stream Sony's Future Film Releases

Netflix has struck a deal with Sony Pictures Entertainment to stream its theatrical releases beginning with its 2022 movie slate.


The multi-year agreement with the streaming giant cements the status of Culver City's Sony as a major film provider, especially with future releases of the "Spider-Man" franchise. The deal comes as other studios — including Disney — are heavily investing in their own streaming platforms.

Netflix will also have dibs on next year's films "Morbius," "Uncharted," "Where the Crawdads Sing," and "Bullet Train."

The terms of the deal weren't disclosed, but the agreement provides Netflix access to Sony's Marvel series including future installments, while Netflix has agreed to finance future films.

"This not only allows us to bring their impressive slate of beloved film franchises and new IP to Netflix in the U.S., but it also establishes a new source of first run films for Netflix movie lovers worldwide," said Scott Stuber head of global films at Netflix in the announcement.
