New Digs 🏠
This week we learned that the startup that bills itself as the WeWork for bioscience professionals, Lab Launch, is building a space in Los Angeles' Atwater Village district. Freeway traffic included.
Not just that, but a Pasadena landmark that was once known for its BBQ will soon be the home of Motiv Space Systems, a startup that builds robots for NASA.
Betting On The Future Of...
Investors are making bets on L.A. startups, including Popshop Live, a platform that combines ecommerce with livestreaming—eBay meets TikTok, sort of.
Other L.A. startups that sealed serious moola from investors this week include:
- Willa, an iOS app that pays gig workers immediately after they file an invoice. Investors believe Willa could soon tap into the wider freelance worker market in the U.S. that is estimated to be around 60 million.
- DressX, an app that uses augmented reality to superimpose virtual outfits to show off on your Instagram. The bet is that content creators will flock to the mobile app to buy virtual clothes without the environmental cost of production, shipping and waste.
- Crush Capital, a Beverly Hills-based investment company, is launching a new show series that the founders are calling it the "Robinhood for angel investing." Their pitch to investors is that Crush democratizes access to IPOs.
- Repeat helps brands gauge when a customer may need to order a product again based on the behavior of the average customer. Investors back it because it could solve a common ecommerce problem for brands looking for repeat customers.
